Title: Five Love Affairs Author: irisbleufic Written for: darkangelazure in the batmanjoker Exchange Fandom: TDK (Nolanverse) Pairing: Batman/Joker Rating: R Notes: This piece will be the first major tie-in I've done for The Arkham Sessions since completing (ha) the series. The request-prompt that I've chosen to work with is Pablo Neruda's Sonnet XVII - "Between the shadow and the soul." There's some gorgeous, unsettling darkness in that poem, so all my thanks to darkangelazure for including such a thing in her list of prompts! Summary: If you can't change it, then you must bear it.

| More TDK fic: The Dreams of Others - Ensemble Cast - PG13 |

Title: The Dreams of Others Fandom: The Dark Knight (Nolanverse)/Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth/my own inevitable meddling, for which I beg pardon. Rating: PG-13 Characters/Pairings: Ensemble cast - rogues and would-be good guys alike. Notes: Much like Escape Artist, I'm going to consider this one a stand-alone as well. However, it builds on some of the groundwork for peripheral characters that I set down in The Arkham Sessions series and its related drabbles (so, yes: it may help if you read those first). For example, Poison Ivy as you see her here is at least in part my own interpretation - whereas my interpretations of Harvey/Two-Face, Scarecrow, and the Joker remain more closely aligned with the versions of them that you see in The Dark Knight. The structure of this piece owes almost everything to my fascination with the last six pages of Arkham Asylum. My respect for Dave McKean and Grant Morrison knows no bounds; in comaparison, my faults are, doubtless, legion. Summary: The boundary between our waking and sleeping hours is very fine indeed.

Title: Next Time Fandom: The Dark Knight Pairing: Bruce(/Batman)/Joker Rating: NC-17 Notes: Part 9/9 total; follows the two previous story-arcs - {I. Cell-Block Tango, II. Unstoppable Force, III. Immovable Object, IV. Deep, Deep Water} and {I. Stranger, II. Body Language, III. Limits, IV. The Bottom of the Sea}. I suggest reading those before you tackle this, because it all refers back to previously established events. This has been one long haul, and I'm sure I wouldn't have found half as much motivation without such an astounding, perceptive bunch of readers. My hat's off to you in the most grateful flourish possible! Summary: There will be a next time, and he will have his chance.
( The landscaping crew was not one that Alfred had worked with before, but it had come at Mayor Garcia's highest recommendation. ) |

| Alfred couldn't let well enough alone, and he regrets it. Big-time. |

Title: The Bottom of the Sea Fandom: The Dark Knight Characters: Alfred, Joker Rating: PG-13 Notes: Part 4 in the new arc; follows {I. Cell-Block Tango, II. Unstoppable Force, III. Immovable Object, IV. Deep, Deep Water} and {I. Stranger, II. Body Language, III. Limits}. I suggest reading the first pieces before you tackle this one, because it all refers back to previously established events. Parts 1-3 of the second arc (Stranger, Body Language, and Limits) technically happen between parts 3 and 4 of the first arc (Immovable Object and Deep, Deep Water). This piece, however, is happening just after the events of Deep, Deep Water. My humblest apologies for all the strange interveaving, but that's how the thematic threads panned out. Truth be told, I think you've all done a better job of keeping yourselves unconfused than I have! I'll be making a master-post of links trying to explain these intricacies more clearly once the long story that'll follow this second arc is finished/posted. Summary: Know thy enemy as thyself.
( And forgive me for this, too, Master Bruce: I had to know what you were dealing with. ) |

Title: Limits Fandom: The Dark Knight Characters & Pairing: Bruce Wayne(/Batman)/Joker Rating: R Notes: Part 3 in a new arc; follows {I. Cell-Block Tango, II. Unstoppable Force, III. Immovable Object, IV. Deep, Deep Water} and {I. Stranger, II. Body Language}. I suggest reading the first pieces before you tackle this one, because it all refers back to previously established events. Stranger, Body Language, this piece, and those that will follow it technically happen between Immovable Object and Deep, Deep Water. I'd find it impossible to move forward without fleshing out the last handful of meetings between them that led up to Bruce's release. Summary: Batman has to own up to his boundaries, and fast.
( And meanwhile, Bruce had been dreaming. ) |

Title: Body Language Fandom: The Dark Knight Characters & Pairing: Bruce Wayne(/Batman)/Joker Rating: R Notes: Part 2 in a new arc; follows {I. Cell-Block Tango, II. Unstoppable Force, III. Immovable Object, IV. Deep, Deep Water} and {I. Stranger}. I suggest reading the first pieces before you tackle this one, because it all refers back to previously established events. Stranger, this piece, and those that will follow it technically happen between Immovable Object and Deep, Deep Water. I'd find it impossible to move forward without fleshing out the last handful of meetings between them that led up to Bruce's release. Summary: The Joker's hit a nerve, and a he knows it.
( It's next time again, and you didn't bother to make plans. ) |

| TDK fic, continued: "Deep, Deep Water" - Part 4/4 - PG13 - Alfred POV, Batman/Joker |
[Aug. 2nd, 2008|06:16 pm] |
Title: Deep, Deep Water Fandom: The Dark Knight Characters & Pairing: Alfred, Bruce Wayne(/Batman)/Joker Rating: PG-13 Notes: Part 4/4; follows I. Cell-Block Tango, II. Unstoppable Force, and III. Immovable Object. I suggest reading the first three installments, as this one will make a lot more sense if you do. Having given Alfred an offscreen part in the last installment, it only seems right to give him the last word. Summary: Those who have it hardest are those who must stand by and watch.
( If I may say so, Master Bruce, this has all gone beyond too far. ) |

Title: Cell-Block Tango Fandom: The Dark Knight Pairing: Bruce Wayne(/Batman)/Joker Rating: R Notes: I confess to having read exactly two Batman comics in my time: The Killing Joke and Mad Love. I watched the cartoon series all through my adolescence, and the very first film (lousy Batman though I thought Keaton was) gave me some odd nightmares (all Nicholson's doing). In other words, forgive my being so rooted in the audiovisual media. It's all I have. As actual notes go, all you need to know is that I'm operating on an AU assumption that Batman gets caught. Continuity: This piece is 1/3, followed by Unstoppable Force. Summary: There are very few rules in Arkham, and nobody follows them anyway.
( Between Alfred's visits, these other visits were the only thing that kept Bruce sane. ) |
