| The last requests, in no particular order. There's odd stuff in here - crossovers like mad! |
[Oct. 3rd, 2008|12:21 pm] |
(The others are here, here, here, and here. For those of you who forget what these were even for, they have to do with that survey post I made a few weeks ago to find out several things: who's been here the longest, how many fandoms people read in, etc. If you're wondering where the original post at which you made your requests has gone, I've locked it private. I've been striking things off and making notes there. In other words, it's a mess. So, if you want to see if I've written your request yet, check those four links. If not at one of those, it'll be in this post for sure!)

New TDK/Arkham Sessions-related fic: "Five Love Affairs" - R - batmanjoker Exchange |
[Sep. 30th, 2008|03:21 pm] |
Title: Five Love Affairs Author: irisbleufic Written for: darkangelazure in the batmanjoker Exchange Fandom: TDK (Nolanverse) Pairing: Batman/Joker Rating: R Notes: This piece will be the first major tie-in I've done for The Arkham Sessions since completing (ha) the series. The request-prompt that I've chosen to work with is Pablo Neruda's Sonnet XVII - "Between the shadow and the soul." There's some gorgeous, unsettling darkness in that poem, so all my thanks to darkangelazure for including such a thing in her list of prompts! Summary: If you can't change it, then you must bear it.

| New TDK fic: "Tandem" - Harvey Dent - PG13 |
[Sep. 1st, 2008|01:48 am] |
Title: Tandem Fandom: TDK (Nolanverse) Pairing/Characters: Harvey and his coin. No, really. Rating: I can't believe this warrants a PG-13, but it does. Notes: You know, if I didn't have such a penchant for rescuing things from obscurity, I probably wouldn't be losing as much sleep as this over that bloody Kink Meme. Still, there's so much jaw-dropping WTF that I almost can't look away. Somebody has requested for Harvey to be paired with his coin. Now, this looks kind of ridiculous on the surface, but...um. Poor choice of words. For those of you who have been wanting a Harvey character-study from me, this probably fits the bill. Summary: This might be a tale of attachment, obsession, and belief. On the other hand, it might just be a good old-fashioned nightmare.
( He doesn't bother to look when it's time to make the call. ) |

| New TDK fic: Personal Touch - Batman/Joker - R |
[Aug. 24th, 2008|11:42 pm] |
Title: Personal Touch Fandom: The Dark Knight (Nolanverse) Pairing/Characters: Joker focus; a handful of victims; Batman/Joker throughout. Rating: R Notes: The one-offs continue. I'm not sure how to explain the reasoning behind this one, as I suspect it's not actually reasoning. I got fairly smashed at a party two nights ago; I mean intoxicated to the point where everything was disconnected, colorful, and far too loud. And I wondered what having no inhibitions would be like as one's baseline nature when stone-cold sober. Add to that some random meditation on the matter of knives and, well, voilà. I had sort of been hoping the "Do you want me to tell you which of your friends were cowards?" monologue would continue, as I find that line of reasoning far more gripping than even the scar stories. Also, my profoundest apologies to Merriam-Webster for butchering up one of their entries. Summary: One definition, six stories, and very few survivors.
( You'll be purveyor of the finest death this city's ever seen. ) |

| Let's mix it up! |
[Aug. 21st, 2008|05:02 pm] |
Title: Rivalries Fandom: The Dark Knight (Nolanverse)/Sandman crossover. Yes, I've cracked. Pairing/Characters: Batman/Joker, nearly all of the Endless Rating: PG-13/R Notes: As with The Dreams of Others, I'm once again compelled to see what an injection of graphic-novel influence will do to the Nolanverse. Granted, the Endless are not going to be interacting with anybody directly; this story's more an exploration of what meddling they might be doing just beyond the fabric of reality. It seems to me that the Endless would take a keen interest in such an epic struggle as this one (or passing interest, depending on which one of them we're talking about). This time, my apologies are not only to Dave McKean, but also to Neil Gaiman. Sir, I worship the 'net you blog on; you'd have my head for the Good Omens infractions alone. Summary: Kindred is as kindred does, and humans aren't any different.

| More TDK fic: The Dreams of Others - Ensemble Cast - PG13 |
[Aug. 19th, 2008|10:42 pm] |
Title: The Dreams of Others Fandom: The Dark Knight (Nolanverse)/Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth/my own inevitable meddling, for which I beg pardon. Rating: PG-13 Characters/Pairings: Ensemble cast - rogues and would-be good guys alike. Notes: Much like Escape Artist, I'm going to consider this one a stand-alone as well. However, it builds on some of the groundwork for peripheral characters that I set down in The Arkham Sessions series and its related drabbles (so, yes: it may help if you read those first). For example, Poison Ivy as you see her here is at least in part my own interpretation - whereas my interpretations of Harvey/Two-Face, Scarecrow, and the Joker remain more closely aligned with the versions of them that you see in The Dark Knight. The structure of this piece owes almost everything to my fascination with the last six pages of Arkham Asylum. My respect for Dave McKean and Grant Morrison knows no bounds; in comaparison, my faults are, doubtless, legion. Summary: The boundary between our waking and sleeping hours is very fine indeed.

| TDK Fic-Recs: It's taken me two weeks to compile this, and every minute was worth it. |
[Aug. 19th, 2008|01:58 pm] |
Face-Lift and Pulling Out by interpretthis - Not only were these two of the first Batman/Joker stories I ran across, but they're still two of the absolute best. She writes the Joker with such whimsically menacing glee that it's infectious.
Masquerade by tanzent - This one's delightfully theatrical, and very, very naughty. And surprisingly in-character, given the almost unlikely scenario. It won me over!
Anomaly by cimness - I hadn't expected to enjoy Bruce/Gordon, but my old friend and sister in fannish crime has convinced me. Her Gordon-voice is so spot-on it hurts.
You Had Me At Hello and Bedbugs & Boomboxes by mercuriazs - Here's another stunner: I hadn't expected to enjoy Joker/Scarecrow, either, but these two pieces contain wicked-sharp dialogue and bizarre, tongue-in-cheek meta references.
Hercules Is Fallen (To Rise No More) and Chaos Theory by aliana_iskassa - Chilly and cerebral. I feel as if I'm at a strange sort of remove when I read these.
Passions of a Man by mz_bstone - For those of you who love Alfred/Lucius as much as I do! Strictly speaking, this is Batman Begins territory.
Backstage by yahtzee63 - As similar in premise as this one is to the previous, it deserves to be read in its own right. Besides, I had a tough time tracking it down!
Call Sign by arjuna74 - As generally opposed to nailing down a definitive origin-story for the Joker as I am, if I were to believe in any? This would be it.
Rapaciously by salmon_pink - This piece is genuinely scary. And sad as all hell.
Method and Tabloid Headlines by shiny_n_new - One of the best Joker character-studies I've seen and one of the best Gordon character-studies I've seen respectively.
Afterthought and That's Embarrassing by semi_subtle - Joker/Harvey and Joker/Bruce respectively. I can't decide which I like best, but then, I don't have to...
In Reverse by thelullabystops - Somebody requested the Joker dressing as a fake!Batman just for laughs in the Batman Kink Meme, and this piece delivers.
Storytime by bacchae23 - I'm so glad somebody's given the average citizens of Gotham a voice. This story's in one of the most unique formats I've come across!
Bird in Hand by randombattlecry - This is quite a different take on Batman getting chucked into Arkham. And the Joker and Gordon both make appearances, too. |

| New TDK fic: "Escape Artist" - Batman/Joker - R |
[Aug. 17th, 2008|09:12 pm] |
Title: Escape Artist Fandom: The Dark Knight (Nolanverse) Pairing: Bruce(/Batman)/Joker Rating: R Notes: Seeing as I promised you some one-offs, I might as well use my last night of freedom to good purpose. I found myself wondering what would've happened if I hadn't decided to approach fic-writing from an AU angle (i.e. The Arkham Sessions) first, and I invariably ended up back at the Joker dangling there, surrounded by those suckers in SWAT suits. While I'm more than half convinced he probably ends up in Arkham (at least for a while), I think there's also a very high likelihood that he might not. That's the beauty of chance, isn't it? Summary: Determination and insanity are two words for the same thing.
( Because Gotham never sleeps, there's no reason that Batman should, either. ) |
